Dr. Sharmistha Banerjee, Co-Principal Investigator

Dr. Sharmistha Banerjee is a Professor and former Head, Department of Business Management at the University of Calcutta. She received a Bachelor of Commerce (1987), a Master's of Commerce (1990), a Bachelor's of Education (1992) and a PhD in Management (2002) from the University of Calcutta. Also she has a Mini MBA certification from Rollins College, Florida USA. Her teaching areas include Management, HRM, OB and Entrepreneurship. Her research areas include Small Business Management, Microfinance and Entrepreneurship, Human Resource Management, OB, Public Policy and Development, Environmental Management and Children and Women's Issues. Under her mentorship, a number of students have earned their PhD degrees and many more are pursuing their doctoral thesis under her supervision.Her research areas vary between social capital, performance management, small business management, environmental management.

As part of various research projects funded by UGC, and other government and private bodies including UNDP, she has worked on national and international projects dealing with children and women issues, public policy, environmental issues, and recently in the field of microfinance.

Dr. Banerjee has extensive international experience. Her international assignments include Fulbright Scholarships to Bloomsburg University in Pennsylvania, USA in 2005, Fulbright Scholar in Residence in Moreno Valley in California in 2012 and the Global Links Scholarship in Orlando Florida, USA.

In 2006, she served as visiting faculty in BRAC Business School at BRAC University in Dhaka, Bangladesh. She also served as a visiting faculty member at the SolBridge International School of Business at Woosong University in Daejeon, South Korea. She spent two weeks in 2009 as a resource focal point at the Workshop on Field Research on Violence against Children in Kenya, in Nairobi and Mombasa, conducted by IREWOC, University of Amsterdam and Plan Kenya.She has, for other short term academic interactions travelled to Sweden, Germany, Switzerland, Turkey, China, Indonesia, Mexico.

Dr. Banerjee is an active contributor and editor for several prestigious research publications and international journals in the fields of business, environment, children's rights and public policy.

Dr. Banerjee is a life-long supporter of the girl scouts. She serves as a leader for "girl guide" activities at Carmel High School, her alma-matter. As a recipient of the President's Guide award as a girl scout, she continues to uphold the spirit in which the distinction was given- mentoring young scouts and guides and living by Lord Baden Powell's credo "Be Prepared.'
